Understanding SOFT ARMOR

When shopping for quality tactical gear, be sure to look for SOFT ARMOR. If you’re not familiar with this term, it refers to bullet-resistant vests that also have an extremely soft, comfortable lining. This is important because soft armor will not only help absorb impacts, it will also make movement and sitting comfortable. It will also help make carrying the vest easy, since it won’t be too heavy. Many vests and packs are made with soft armor, so look for one that is made by a top brand.

Soft armor will make it easier for you to get shot at, since bullets will go past it and still lodge in the target’s soft tissue, or subcutaneous layer. Soft armor doesn’t have any structural elements to it, so it just fills the area that a bullet would otherwise puncture through. Soft armor also tends to be lighter and more pliable, which gives it the ability to better absorb impacts. It might feel sort of like a heavy canvas vest, though the materials used to make that vest are anything but thin.

There are several other materials that are sometimes included in the design of a bulletproof vest or backpack. The main types of material include fiberglass, which is generally used for body armor, bulletproof vests, ceramic plates used as deterrents to handguns, Kevlar, and sometimes even carbon fiber. The types of technologies that can be incorporated into a bulletproof vest are particularly diverse, as well. Some of these include active protection technology, which offers users the ability to trigger the safety alarm from a distance and increase their chances of being hit; smart, bulletproof vest technology that help to reduce the time it takes for a bullet to reach its destination after it exits the shooter’s gun; and infrared technology that help to protect the wearer from temperature changes. This last type of technology is often used in law enforcement equipment and for snipers.
